Eighth-grader Ella Benoit swims with the Sauk Rapids-Rice High School swim team. Last week in a win against Apollo, Benoit won the 100m breaststroke event. In winning the 100m, Benoit set a middle school record.

Benoit's mother Pam was a record-setting swimmer herself, and Ella was in the pool at a very young age.

She says she does not get intimidated swimming against older athletes, and that she just tries to do the best she can individually.

Benoit helped Sauk Rapids-Rice to a win over Apollo at a meet last week. She says she was happy that her team got the victory.

After her second place finish in the 200m IM, she won the 100m breaststroke event.

In winning the event, Benoit set a middle school record, a moment she calls "exciting."
