ST. CLOUD -- The city of St. Cloud had only one organization step up and ask to partner on building and operating a new aquatic center. Mayor Dave Kleis says the YMCA and the city will work to move forward on building the facility.

Kleis says both the city and the YMCA have conducted studies on the project.  The next step will be to determine a site and the size and scope of the project.

The mayor says they will look to add additional partnerships to build the facility after the site and design are worked out.

St. Cloud area voters approved a half-cent sales tax extension back in 2004 that would raise $10-million to be spent on the project. The legislature approved plans to extend the half-cent sales tax an additional three years, but it failed as part of a bigger bill.
