WAITE PARK -- Two people were arrested after a short pursuit by Waite Park Police Wednesday night.

It started when an officer tried to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver pulled into the Crossroads Center parking lot and refused to stop.

The car then took off through a red light and sped down 3rd Street North. The driver slammed on the brakes twice and the passenger door opened but no one got out. Finally, a passenger escaped on foot and the driver stopped on Rivercrest Drive in St. Cloud.

The driver, 20-year-old Kayla Deroiser of Sauk Rapids was arrested for felony fleeing police.

The passenger was tracked with a bloodhound and police arrested 20-year-old Jason Hejhal of St. Paul.

Hejhal was allegedly found with 12 grams of methamphetamine on him. He was booked on felony possession with intent to distribute the drugs. He was also wanted on two outstanding felony warrants.
