If you've got littles, you know this is the time of year where it can seem like you have to be everywhere and nowhere all at once, plus don't forget all that back-to-school shopping that needs to be done. Take some time this weekend or next and check out this building in Wayzata, it's hiding a great surprise for you and your kids!

The Wayzata Depot Museum sits on the shore of Lake Minnetonka, which is a win for mom and dad, and also houses a miniature train exhibit! The museum is located in an old train depot, and is staffed by volunteers who will happily tell you about the area's history, and of course trains.

According to the Wayzata Historical Society's website:

Wayzata’s Great Northern Railway Depot has been a local landmark since 1906. As Wayzata’s third and final train station, it was considered the “handsomest” depot on the Great Northern Line at the time of construction. Trains stopped at the Depot until 1971. It was donated to the City of Wayzata in 1972 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. Part of the Depot is now open to the public as a museum operated by the Wayzata Historical Society.

The museum is open from April through December on Saturdays and Sundays from Noon to 4pm, and the garden railroad (miniature trains) is open at the same time, weather permitting.

You can find the Wayzata Depot Muesum at 402 East Lake Street, Wayzata.
