ST. CLOUD -- A St. Cloud man faces criminal charges for allegedly trying to break into Centennial Sports.

Police were called to the sporting goods store at about 12:35 a.m. Tuesday on a report of an attempted burglary.  According to the charging complaint, the owner of the business was working inside the store when he heard someone trying to break-in.

Police arrived minutes later and saw a man running from the scene. Police say the man dropped several items as he tried to flee. He was eventually caught and identified as 24-year-old Joseph McDermott.

Officers recovered a cordless drill, drill bits and a pry bar they say McDermott discarded. Records show the pry bar appears to match the size of pry marks left on the back door of the business.

McDermott is due in court September 29th.
