ST. CLOUD - St. Cloud State University hosted the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk this morning, with over 500 walkers and 200 volunteers gathering together for the cause.

This annual walk is part of the American Cancer Society with the goal of raising money and awareness for breast cancer.

Corie Beckermann is the director of human health services at SCSU and says it's always overwhelming to see so many gathering towards the cause.

"It's an overwhelming feeling when you see the survivors come, you see all the support that we have for them."

Hundreds of students from St. Cloud State and community volunteers were an essential part of the event, spending their Saturday morning to ensure a smooth event.

"I think we have over 250 students that are here helping with set up, clean up, cheering them on the route, it's a great day." Beckermann said.

Since 1993, more than 9 million walkers across the country have raised over $528 million through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events.

The event hoped to raise over $100,000 today. Those who weren't able to attend the event can still donate and learn more about the cause on the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer website.
