ST. PAUL (AP) - More than 500 people gathered in St. Paul to help raise money for a scholarship in the name of Philando Castile, the man fatally shot by a police officer during a traffic stop last month.

Organizers say they've raised more than $25,000 in scholarship money. The gathering at Dunning Recreation Center Sunday afternoon was organized by alumni from Central High School, from which Castile graduated.

Organizer Karla Basta says alumni had a lot of anger and grief, so they decided to channel that into something positive. Local DJs and musicians entertained the crowd while families bought raffle tickets.

The scholarship money will go to a Central High student from an underprivileged background interested in studying education or child development. Castile worked in food service at J.J. Hill elementary school.
