MOUNDS VIEW - Teams from Elk River and Sauk Rapids-Rice high schools received first place honors in the 2015 ProStart Invitational culinary and management competition.

The event was held on February 26th in Mounds View and showcased cooking talents and business skills of high school students enrolled in their schools ProStart Program.

ProStart is a two-year educational program supported by the National Restaurant Association Educational  Foundation.

The first place culinary team from Elk River High School prepared a rustic egg yolk ravioli as a starter, a Mediterranean lamb loin entree and a chocolate mousse dessert. Team members include Scott Cable, Avalon Donat, Tori Morgan and Jaclyn Studniski.

Scott Cable from Elk River also was honored for knife skills during the culinary competition.

The first-place management team from Sauk Rapids-Rice High School developed a proposal for an original restaurant concept based on guidelines. Team members include Nikki Bukowski, Colleen Schimnich, Madison Waseka and Tanner Zwilling, plus alternate Madelaine Virchow.

Both teams now advance to the national ProStart Invitational, which will be held in Anaheim, California, April 18th-20th.
