Red Lake Man Found Dead in Beltrami County Jail

BEMIDJI -- A Red Lake man has been found dead in his cell at the Beltrami County Jail.

The sheriff's office says jail officials were called to Tony Edward May's cell early Thursday by a cellmate. The 26-year-old May was unresponsive and could not be revived.

Additional details on the circumstances of his death were not released.

Sheriff Phil Hodapp says his office asked an outside agency to investigate. He says the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has taken the lead, and an autopsy was being conducted by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.
