WALKER (AP) — A northern Minnesota man convicted of killing an acquaintance and burying the man's body has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Cass County Attorney Christopher Strandlie says 29-year-old Dane Riley of Pine River got the maximum sentence under state law Thursday.

In 2012, a jury convicted Riley of second-degree intentional murder, a firearms violation and interfering with a dead body.

Mark Huesman's remains were found in a shallow grave in rural Pine River on July 24, 2012, after he was reported missing. The complaint says Riley picked up Huesman on July 14 and they went to Riley's residence.

A woman staying at Riley's trailer house told investigators she woke to the sound of gunshots, went outside and saw Riley hitting Huesman and could hear Huesman begging Riley to stop.
