Pickup Kills Mom Riding Bike In Southwest Minnesota
STEEN (AP) - A pickup in southwestern Minnesota has struck and killed a mother who was riding a bicycle and pulling her two young daughters behind her in a trailer.
The State Patrol says the crash happened about 11:30 a.m. Monday on Highway 270 just north of the family's hometown of Steen.
The patrol says 33-year-old Andrea Boeve was killed.
Boeve was obeying Minnesota law, which calls for bicyclists to ride in the same direction as motorized traffic. She also was wearing a helmet.
Boeve's daughters, 4 and 1 years old, were hospitalized in Luverne with noncritical injuries.
The bicycle was heading east on the highway when it was struck from behind. The driver, a 25-year-old man from Brandon, South Dakota, was arrested. He was not hurt.
