Nine-Year-Old Boy Hit by Vehicle in Waite Park, Taken to Hospital

WAITE PARK - A nine year old boy was taken to the hospital after being hit by a vehicle in Waite Park last night.

Police say the incident happened just after 6:15 p.m. in the area of 2nd Street South and 2nd Avenue South.

A mother and her nine-year-old son were walking north across 2nd Street South. They got across the eastbound lane and waited for westbound traffic to clear.

As the Mom waited, her son got away from her, kept moving and hit the left front bumper of a vehicle. The boy suffered injuries to his face that didn't appear to be life threatening. He was taken to the hospital for an evaluation. Police say the vehicle was fortunately moving at a slower speed.

Westbound traffic for 2nd Street South was closed for 30 minutes as authorities worked at the scene. There were no other injuries from the crash.
