ALTURA, Minn. (AP) - The new owner of Primera Foods plans to close an egg processing facility in a small community in Winona County.

Michael Foods will close the plant in Altura and integrate production at a plant in Britt, Iowa. About 40 employees at the Altura plant will lose their jobs.

Less than two months ago, Michael Foods subsidiary M.G. Waldbaum Co. closed on the purchase of Primera Foods Corp. for nearly $36 million.

Michael Foods executive Diane Sparish says employees who will lose their jobs are encouraged to apply for other positions at Michael Foods, which is based in Minnetonka.
