Couple Jailed Following Campground Shooting

ELBA -- A couple was jailed in Winona County after sheriff's deputies were called to a campground over the Fourth of July holiday weekend on a report of intoxicated people firing guns.

Sheriff Ron Ganrude says when deputies arrived at the campground near Elba on July 3 about 11 p.m., they were directed to a pickup truck that was pulling away from the property.

Deputies followed the truck and pulled it over. A woman behind the wheel was arrested for drunken driving. A man in the passenger seat, who deputies say admitted firing gunshots into the air at the campground, was also arrested.

Ganrude says a sleeping child was in the back seat along with a holstered, loaded handgun.
