ST. PAUL -- You'll notice a change in the terms used to describe Minnesota road conditions this winter.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation has shifted away from terms like "good", "fair" and "difficult" to "normal", "partially covered", "completely covered", "travel not advised" and "closed".

511 Coordinator Kelly Braunig says the old terms were too subjective.  She says these terms are more descriptive and will give drivers better information as they determine whether it's safe for them to travel.

The terms are already in place for the upcoming winter. And, Braunig says you can stay on top of current driving conditions by 511mn.org.
