There are people that say, and I'm sure you have heard it too, who think that the St. Cloud area only have chicken restaurants, banks and car washes.  And I may have been one of those people.  And it's not all false.  There are a lot of fast food chicken restaurants.  There are a lot of banks and there are a lot of car washes.  Or maybe it's just that they all were built and started around the same general time.  But that isn't all that we have here in the area.

I saw on a page that focuses on what cool things Minnesota has, and one of our long time restaurants has made the list of things that people should check out.  That restaurant is along the Sauk River in Waite Park - it's Anton's!  And they are known for their awesome and delicious popovers!  They are so good.

DOES THIS RESTAURANT HAVE A FLOODING ISSUE EVERY YEAR

I know that they are also known for flooding in the Spring.  And people have said that it happens every year.  It might just seem like it, but it's a myth that it happens every year.  It does not.  But yes, it has happened, and they still perservere.

IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT THE POPOVERS - IT'S A WAITE PARK MAINSTAY

If you haven't been to Anton's in a while or ever, you need to make a stop there.  It's not just about the popovers, although they are awesome!  It's also about the ambiance, steaks and seafood, if you are into that type of thing.  Love the view of the Sauk River too.  And yes, there are several geese that will be milling around the back of the restaurant near the water too.

TIMELESS DESCRIPTION AND GLOWING REVIEWS OF THE RESTAURANT

The post on the Minnesota Family Destinations has this description - and they are not wrong.

The sturdy log exterior with its simple “ANTON’S” sign and welcoming red door isn’t trying to impress anyone with architectural flourishes or trendy design elements. It doesn’t need to – this place has something far more valuable: character. As you approach the entrance, walking along the red carpet that leads to the front door, there’s a sense of stepping back into a Minnesota that many feared was disappearing – a place where meals are events, portions are generous, and hospitality isn’t a corporate strategy but a genuine way of life.
