COMFORT FOODS

My boyfriend loves to be in the kitchen. Every weekend, he makes something extraordinary for us, and then he sends me home with many leftovers to share with my kids. Everything from soups and chili's to hotdish and bakes; but this time, I was a little less than pleased with him.

In his spare time, Darin watches a lot of sports and...cooking shows!  Everything from cooking competitions to 'Diners, Drive-In's and Dives.' He watches...and then finds recipes online to make some fantastic dishes. He also typically makes some of his own adjustments.

I'm okay with that, but I've told him time and time again; that there are some specific 'animal parts' I'm not interested in trying. I'm not saying they don't taste good; I'm saying the thought of eating certain things just doesn't sit with me very well; things like cow tongue, pigs feet, brain, chicken feet;  Pretty much the things you can picture in your mind, make it much less appealing for me at the dinner table.

This past weekend, he made a delicious beef stew. It was a chilly weekend, and the perfect fall dish, so I was happy after putting up holiday decorations and cleaning the house, to visit him and have a tasty, warm stew for supper.

I told him it was great. The beef was tender, the vegetables were cooked perfectly, and the seasonings were just right. It reminded me of home.

THEN HE DROPPED THE BOMB

Then...he dropped the bomb. He said, 'It's Oxtail Stew (Soup.)'

I stopped...stunned. We've seen Ox Tail used in a lot of TV shows lately. It seems to be 'The rage' right now on the cooking shows, but I always tell him; that's one of the NO's for me. Tail? Brain? Tongue? It falls into my no-zone.

I politely finished the stew. I did not have a second bowl. But; he DID send home leftovers and I DID like it. I brought a bowl to work today. Now I just have to figure out a way to eat it, without thinking about what I'm eating.
