ST. PAUL -- Hundreds of area high school and junior high students participated in "We Day" at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul today (Tuesday).

Festivities kicked off this morning (Tuesday) with special guest performances by the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato and Carly Rae Jepsen.

Keynote speakers included Free The Children co-founders Marc and Craig Kielburger as well as human rights advocate Martin Luther King III.

This was the second time "We Day" has been held in the United States since it was founded in 2007. Students were invited to participate in We Day because of their local and global action services.

Tech High School was the first school in Minnesota to become a "We School In Action" in 2011. South Junior High 6th grader, Sam Putz says today he learned about the number of children going hungry in the world.

Putz says there were about 18,000 students who attended "We Day" today. Other local schools in attendance included Apollo, Tech and Cathedral High as well as North and South Junior High.
