SAUK RAPIDS -- A Benton County road project that will improve traffic flow on Golden Spike Road is scheduled to open Friday.

Benton County Engineer Chris Byrd says if the weather holds this week, Golden Spike Road's new roundabouts will be open to traffic by the weekend.

Byrd says the $5,800,000 project will not only improve traffic flow, but will accommodate future traffic needs there as Industrial Park East grows and  residential development continues.

Byrd says they were able to get a Transportation for Economic Development grant worth just over $2,000,000 to help pay for the project.

The Golden Spike Road improvements "tie-in" to improvements being made along Highway 10 in that area.

The one-mile project has roundabouts at the ramps on Highway 10, Industrial Boulevard and Mayhew Lake Road. It also widened the roadway and includes a pedestrian/bike trail across the Highway 10 overpass.
