ROCHESTER (AP) - A sudden deluge of rain flooded Rochester streets, stranded motorists and created traffic jams as drivers tried to make their way to work.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Rochester Thursday morning. Forecasters say more than 2 inches of rain fell in less than an hour in some areas around the city, including Mantorville.

Police worked to detour motorists away from flooded areas, where some vehicles floated in the flood water. At least eight vehicles were stalled in water up to their headlights in one area.

The storm knocked down power lines and cut service. A home in Rochester was struck by lightning and caught fire Thursday morning.
