Fire Destroys Meeker County Barn

LITCHFIELD -- An old, unused dairy barn was lost in a fire Wednesday afternoon.

The Meeker County Sheriff's Office was called out to the Gene Kaping property at 17567 590th Avenue in Greenleaf Township at 3:40 p.m.  When authorities arrived, the barn was totally engulfed.

Fire crews from Litchfield and Cosmos responded and put out the blaze.

There were no animals or anything of value inside the barn at the time and no one was hurt. But, the loss in value and clean-up costs are estimated at $50,000-$75,000.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
