Duluth’s West Side Could Get $50 Million in Outdoor Projects

DULUTH (AP) - City leaders in Duluth are considering investing as much as $50 million in outdoor recreation projects in an effort to revitalize the city's west side.

The plan would build trails and other amenities in a formerly industrial part of Duluth. The Duluth City Council will make a preliminary vote on the plan Monday night.

Duluth got approval from the state legislature last year to raise $18 million for the plan from a half-percent sales tax hike on hotels, bars and restaurants. Duluth Mayor Don Ness says the city hopes to get another $32 million in grants and donations.

Ness says the plan is a big part of building up Duluth's population and tax base.
