ST. CLOUD - A momentous occasion for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota on Friday afternoon - one that involved hard hats, shovels and a crowd of cheering children.

The organization broke ground on the north side's Roosevelt Center large-scale expansion and renovation project.

Mark Sakry is the Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Clubs. He says the full kitchen, cafeteria, classroom and activities areas are all desperately needed.

Sakry says a high percentage of club kids are from the immediate neighborhood, and the new wing will provide a much-needed hangout space.

The project has been in the works for over 2 years, and the club is now $875,000 in to their $1.1 million dollar goal.

They're hoping to have the brand new wing finished by July 1st, 2013.
