ST. CLOUD -- The Boys and Girls Club of Central Minnesota is working to raise money to build a gym on the site of the Roosevelt Education Center that burned down last summer.

The $1.5 million project calls for a 5,500-square-foot gymnasium that includes 1,900 square feet for multipurpose space.

Mark Sakry, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club, says the organization needs a gym in order to fully operate.

Since the fire, the Boys and Girls club has had to make due by holding their activities in unfit areas - something that Sakry says has had a negative impact on the organization.

Sakry says the Norman C. Skalicky Foundation has pledged a $625,000 challenge match grant, meaning they will match every dollar donated by the community up to that amount.

The Boys and Girls Club has raised nearly $250,000 so far. You can donate online or drop by the Boys and Girls Club at 345 30th Avenue North in St. Cloud.
