ST. CLOUD -- We're off to an unusually fast start to the winter recreation season.

Heavy snowfall this week has blanketed much of Minnesota and the colder temps that are following means the snow cover will likely stick around.

Assistant State Climatologist Pete Boulay says we haven't had this early start to winter recreation since 2010.

The DNR says their staff and local clubs will be busy grooming trails for the upcoming weekend, but they also say you should do some research and plan ahead before heading out to a winter recreation destination.
