MN Driver Busted Going WAY Over The Speed Limit On This Popular MN Highway
A Minnesota sheriff's deputy stopped a vehicle over the weekend going well over the speed limit on a popular and busy Minnesota highway. Luckily for the rest of us, the traffic stop occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 26.
120+ in a 60 mph zone
On Saturday morning, the Washington County Sheriff's Office posted the above social media post alerting residents to a traffic stop that had occurred while they were sleeping. The post reads:

At 0240 hours this morning, Deputy Hintz, who is assigned as the Newport Deputy, was monitoring traffic on Highway 61 in Newport. Deputy Hintz observed a vehicle driving at an extremely high rate of speed. Deputy Hintz activated his radar, and it showed the vehicle's speed to be 124 mph. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was arrested for Reckless Driving and Speed 124/60 (+64).
Of the 477 traffic fatalities on Minnesota Roads in 2024, 138 had speed as a contributing factor.
90 Days In Jail & Or A $1,000 Fine
The man who was arrested is looking at possibly seeing a $1,000 fine and or 90 days in jail according to the Minnesota statute for being found guilty of reckless or careless driving. Plus any other fine for speeding at 60+ mph over the speed limit.
From One Of The Deadliest To One Of The Safest Stretches Of MN Roadways?
The Minnesota State Patrol also posted to social media this weekend about a different roadway, one that had been one of the deadliest in recent years.
Highway 169 between Grand Rapids and Keewatin has seen 10 fatal crashes since 2019, and thanks to extra enforcement and driver education, that number sits at 0 in the last year, which is positive news all the way around.
Still In The 100 Deadliest Days On Minnesota Roads
Extra enforcement from ALL of Minnesota's law enforcement community will continue through Labor Day, as we are currently in the 100 deadliest days on Minnesota roads campaign. Currently, law enforcement is looking to crack down on speeding and distracted driving.
