ST. CLOUD -- St. Cloud warming houses remain closed this season, but City Parks and Recreation Director Scott Zlotnik says they are maintaining the ice skating rinks.

He says Thursday's rain did not harm the skating surfaces because it was followed up by a deep freeze immediately afterward.

Zlotnik says as for the warming houses, he says they haven't staffed them for three years now and citizens are adjusting accordingly.

Zlotnik says volunteers are not a good match for the warming houses because of the need for background checks and the liability of watching over children.  But, he says the Lake George warming shelter remains open for skaters to use.
