Tick Numbers Normal Despite Early Start to Season
UNDATED -- An early start to the tick season has not led to more ticks this summer or more tick activity, for that matter. Elizabeth Schiffman is an Epidemiologist with the Minnesota Department of Health. She says that's good news as we exit peak tick season.
Schiffman says there isn't enough data back yet on whether there were more or fewer cases of tick-transmitted diseases so far.
Ticks are still out there Schiffman cautions, but the hot and dry conditions keep them from questing as much as they do in the months of May and June.
Sschiffman says it's worth noting that Minnesota has two tick seasons...one in the spring and one in the fall, so expect tick activity to pick back up in September.
