Teen Charged In Shooting That Paralyzed Minnesota Girl
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A 19-year-old woman is accused of being the driver in a shooting that left a 12-year-old Minneapolis girl partially paralyzed.
Casey Michelle Walters of Lowell, Ind.., is charged with first-degree assault and drive-by shooting, both felonies.
A criminal complaint says Walters, formerly of Crystal, knows gang members. The complaint says Walters told police that three young men were in a car with her and that one of them stood up, leaned out of the car's sunroof, and fired a shot into a group of people.
The bullet hit Guadalupe Galeno Hernandez in the throat as she was standing on the steps of a home in south Minneapolis on Nov. 12.
The bullet severed the girl's spinal cord. She is now using a motorized wheelchair.
