SAUK RAPIDS - The Sauk Rapids-Rice school district needs to trim nearly $760,000 from next year's budget.  The cuts are necessary because voters in the district voted against a proposed operating levy last November.

Superintendent Dan Bittman says they've been putting together a preliminary list of cuts, which they'll present to the school board at their meeting this Monday.

Bittman says the board will have to make their final decisions on cuts at their meeting on March 26th.

The last time Sauk Rapids-Rice had an operating levy was back in 1997.  Several attempts to get voters to approve a levy have failed since then.  The district was also force to cut $1.5 million back in 2008.
