MINNEAPOLIS -- Minneapolis musician George Maurer is preparing to bike 3,600 miles across the country in honor of a friend he lost to cancer.

On Thursday, Maurer will ride from Seattle to Boston in 48 days, for the 48 Across the 48 Carolyn Held Memorial Bike Ride.

Carolyn lost her fight with cancer in 2012. After her funeral Maurer wanted to do something to not only honor his friend but to help others.

Carolyn's husband Pat, plans to drive Maurer to Seattle to begin his journey. Maurer says he plans to average 75 miles a day on his trip, posting videos and photos along the way.

On July 31st Maurer plans to be back in Minnesota, where he and his band will put on a concert at Pat's home in Motley, known as Heldstock.

Maurer says he was inspired by Carolyn during their friendship and hopes to inspire others over his journey.

He has already raised just over $3500.00 that will go to cancer research.
