More Talks, But No Progress, For Special Session
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Hopes of quickly calling Minnesota lawmakers back for a special session are fading.
The Legislature adjourned late last month without passing a $1 billion package of public construction projects, immediately prompting talk of an overtime session. Gov. Mark Dayton's veto of a tax bill added to the pile of unfinished work.
But Dayton and legislative leaders reported no progress Wednesday after the latest round of private talks. They're struggling to find compromise on funding a light-rail train to southwestern Minneapolis suburbs that Republicans dislike but Democrats say is essential.
Dayton noted the wide divide but says he still wants to call a special session before the end of the month. Republican House Speaker Kurt Daudt says he doubtful that's possible.
