UNDATED -- Duck hunters should see more birds when the Minnesota duck hunting season opens Saturday.

Steve Cordts is a Waterfowl Specialist with the DNR. He says there was record continental duck breeding populations this year and the season is starting earlier than it has since World War II meaning the migration is just starting.

Cordts says the dry conditions mean it's important for duck hunters to scout their hunting area first to make sure there is water in the swamps, lake levels can accommodate boat motors and mud flats are navigable.
