ST. CLOUD -- A local group is holding the annual Rally to Improve Birth at Lake George tomorrow to call attention to birth practices in the maternal health care system.

The rally is hosted by the Birth Community, whose president, Paula Meyer, says it is the first held in St. Cloud and is part of a global movement to raise awareness about changes in maternity care.

Meyer is a birth doula, which is a trained, nonmedical professional who provides information and support to both partners during a pregnancy.

Meyer says a major objective in the rally is to push for more evidence-based care during pregnancy and birth.

Meyer says the rally is not arguing for or against any belief in birth practices, but rather to support women as decision-makers in their pregnancies.
