SARTELL -  The inaugural "Tom Bearson Foundation" golf outing is this Saturday. Opening events start at 11:30 a.m. at Blackberry Ridge in Sartell.

We've got a lot of festivities planned for it in addition to the golf outing. There's going to be a raffle and a silent auction, and everyone will get a chance to eat dinner, and then there's a DJ for those that stay.

Tom's dad, Greg Bearson, says they're at capacity with over 300 golfers signed-up. He says, because it's their first-ever event, they have no idea how much money they're going to raise.

It's definitely on its way to be being a success. And the beautiful part in that is it's all going to go back to our community in the name of our son.

Greg Bearson, says they've had a huge outpouring of support for the event.

The community has really been instrumental in helping our family get through this. When you have terrible things happen to you and you see so many people rally around you, and stand up for you, and support you, we're seeing that in the response to our inaugural golf outing.

Money raised by the "Tom Bearson Foundation" will go toward youth basketball programs, scholarships, and more gym space in Sartell.

Bearson says they've had discussions about more events in the future. Next year's golf outing has already been set for July 23rd also at Blackberry Ridge.

Tom Bearson was killed last September in the Fargo-Moorhead area. He was a freshman at North Dakota State University. No arrests have been made in the case.
