Fischbach Says Higher Ed Committee Will Have Tough Questions For U-of-M
ST. PAUL -- The chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee has some deep concerns about the University of Minnesota's student conduct policy. Republican Michelle Fischbach of Paynesville says recent scandals involving student athletes have embarrassed the entire state of Minnesota.
Fischbach says she'll be asking some tough questions when U-of-M officials go before her committee next week asking for state funding...
If we want this to be a shining star, we really need to take a look at it and do some reforms and they need to do some reforms internally. So, yes, we'll be looking at that budget more stringently and looking at that code of conduct and how they are handling things like this.
Fischbach says the University of Minnesota is the state's flagship school. She says student athletes should be held to a higher standard because they represent the university and the state of Minnesota as public figures.
