ST. CLOUD -- The Beaver Island Trail extension alignment in St. Cloud has been approved and now the city needs to raise $1-million to complete the project.

Parks Director Scott Zlotnik says the alignment will keep the trail along the riverbank until it ends at the boat launch near Cathedral High School. Zlotnik says it was actually cheaper than bringing the trail back up to the top of the riverbank where they would have had significant grading work to do to comply with the American Disabilities Act. He says they will now use a "bridgewalk" for the extension.

The three-quarter mile project will cost $3-million and will be paid for with $1-million in half cent sales tax money, and $500-thousand grants from the state and federal government. The remaining $1-million will need to come from private donations.
