WAITE PARK - The Waite Park City Council set their preliminary budget and levy for 2012 on Monday night.

The budget has been set at just over $4.9 million.  It's a 2.9% increase over the the current year.  City Administrator Shaunna Johnson says the increase is due to higher expenses in the police department, utilities, and personnel costs.

The levy is set at $5,040,000.  That's about $50,000 more than the current year.  Johnson says it's too early to tell what that will do to property taxes.

A public hearing has been set for December 5th.  And the final budget and levy will be set after that.
