WAITE PARK - Waite Park is getting a new north-south corridor on the west end of town.

The city council unanimously approved the creation of 18th Avenue - between Highway 23 to the north and County Road 137 to the south.  It will be built just to the west of Menards.

The total cost of the project is about $4.8 million.  The state will pay for about $3.5 million, property owners will be assessed $852,000, and the city's cost is $161,000.

It will take about a year to buy up the land, and design the road.  Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2013.
