Vikings to Play Last Game in Metrodome

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - It's the last hurrah for the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.

Sunday's game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions marks the last time the public will enter the downtown Minneapolis stadium before it's demolished, a process that starts next month with the deflation of its iconic roof.

The Metrodome opened in 1982. For many years it was home to both the Vikings and baseball's Minnesota Twins, who won two World Series there but moved across town to Target Field in 2010.

The Vikings will mark the end of the dome after Sunday's game with an on-field ceremony featuring retired players and star running back Adrian Peterson. The Metrodome site will be home to the new Vikings stadium, which is scheduled to be ready for play by the 2016 season.
