Twins’ Santana Suspended For 80 Games

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Newly-acquired Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Ervin Santana has been suspended by Major League Baseball after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

Reports say Santana tested positive for the substance Stanozolol and was handed out an 80-game suspension Friday.

Santana said in a statement that he is "disappointed" and "frustrated" by the announcement and says he would "never knowingly take anything illegal" to enhance his performance.

The 32-year-old pitcher signed a four-year, $55 million contract with Minnesota in December.
