Stearns County Parks Looking To Ramp Up Talks On Extending Lake Wobegon Trail
ST. CLOUD -- The Stearns County Parks Department will present a feasibility study to county commissioners today that would take the next step in efforts to extend the Lake Wobegon Trail into St. Cloud.
Parks Director Chuck Wocken says they needed a detailed plan to bring to Burlington Northern Santa Fe officials for consideration of using their rail right-of-way. He says they have a feasibility study they will use to determine exactly where they want the trail to go.
Wocken says if commissioners give the go-ahead, they will look to secure an easement from BNSF, acquire right-of-way and find funding to extend the trail.
The first phase would be to extend it from where it ends in St. Joe into Waite Park. The next phase would be to extend it across Highway 15 and the final phase would be to extend it all the way to the Beaver Island Trail.
