ST. CLOUD - The State Human Rights Commissioner will be talking with local leaders this week.  Commissioner Kevin Lindsey will be speaking at the St. Cloud Area Joint Cities meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) at 5:30 p.m. at the Sauk Rapids City Hall.

Lindsey says he was invited to speak by St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis, who is trying to convince the other metro area cities to join the Regional Human Rights Office.

Lindsey says his department has three primary duties.

Lindsey says on a statewide level his office receives about 1,000 charges of discrimination every year.

Lindsey says his department is becoming more proactive in creating an open conversation between diverse groups.

Lindsey says they have no other satellite offices in the state, but he's hoping St. Cloud's could become a model of other regional centers.

The St. Cloud Regional Human Rights office receives a state grant for funding.
