ST. CLOUD  (AP) - The group of about 500 Oromo immigrants living in central Minnesota is getting a leg up from a St. Cloud-based group that wants to help them adjust to the shock of a new landscape.

The Midwest Oromo Community provides a wide variety of assistance, including necessities like language, education and transportation. Oromo is an East African ethnic group from the Oromia region of Ethiopia that has been coming to Minnesota for about 10 years.

Executive director Mohamed Webo is Oromo himself. He says since the group was created in 2008, it has worked with local police and the school
district to help the two cultures understand one another.

The group recently won a $25,000 grant that will be divvied up among its programs.
