ST. CLOUD - The St. Cloud City Council has voted to approve spending nearly $6.2 million to extend the Beaver Island Trail in downtown St. Cloud.

The council approved the low bid and budget for the project, which includes the river front and staircase improvements next to the River's Edge Convention Center.

The Beaver Island Trail Phase 3 extension will bring the trail closer to the Mississippi River, as well as extend it under the Veterans bridge and train bridge and end at Hester Park.

The project will be funded with sales tax, a federal grant, and Convention Center Capital.
