SARTELL -- Local youth went on a shopping spree tonight (Tuesday) to find gifts this holiday season with some help from local law enforcement.

The Sartell, Sauk Rapids and St. Cloud Police Departments took less fortunate kids shopping as part of their "Shop with a Cop" program.

Sartell School Resource Officer Adam VandeVrede says the officers look forward to this program every year.

Over 20 kids got to spend up to $50 for a gift and VandeVrede says many of the kids find more joy in giving then receiving.

The kids who participate in the program were chosen by the school resource officer and range from elementary to high school age.

Walmart and Bernick's have been big supporters to the program providing $1000 each for the children to shop.

VandeVrede says the program is great for the community and great for strengthening the bond between the children and officers.

This is the fourth year the Sartell Police Department has been involved with the program.
