MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A family member says a Twin Cities native was among four Army aviators killed when two helicopters crashed during training at a Washington state base.

Joint Base Lewis-McChord says Chief Warrant Officer Lucas Daniel Sigfrid was a native of Alabama. But Sigfrid went to high school and college in Minnesota.

His cousin, Mark Duclos, says Sigfrid graduated from Champlin Park High School, in a suburb of Minneapolis, and attended St. Cloud State University for pilot training before joining the Army.

Sigfrid had been on active duty since May 2008. The 32-year-old had not deployed overseas.

Army officials say the airmen were on a routine night training flight when the helicopters went down. The investigation could take as long as a year.
