Minnesota Group Holds Food Drive For Ebola Orphans In Africa

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (AP) - A Minnesota group is hosting a food drive to help children who have been left orphaned and neglected by the Ebola outbreak in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.

The Minnesota African Task Force Against Ebola will be collecting food from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. today (Saturday) at the Brooklyn Park Community Activity Center.

Project coordinator Robena Lewis-Vincent says hunger is beginning to devastate families affected by Ebola, and unless the African diaspora helps, some of the most at-risk will be in danger.

The public is asked to help by donating non-perishable food items.

After the food drive, the task force will ship the donations to organizations already working in West Africa to address hunger and Ebola.

The current Ebola outbreak has killed nearly 9,500 people in West Africa.
