MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Dozens of students from Minneapolis Southwest High School were on board a Delta flight from New York when one of the pilots declared an emergency.

Delta Airlines spokesman Eric Torbenson says the smell of smoke inside the MD-88 jetliner caused pilots to make an emergency landing at JFK Airport shortly after taking off from LaGuardia Sunday night.

Torbenson says the plane landed "without incident" and no one was injured. He says the cause of the smoke problem is not yet known.

Martin Keller says his 18-year-old daughter was on board and was shaken up and upset by the emergency landing. Keller says the 36 students and others went to New York last Thursday for a choir, theater and dance trip and were on their way home.
