CLEVELAND (AP) — Minnesota Twins first baseman Joe Mauer is out of the starting lineup for the second straight game because of lower back spasms.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Mauer's back has improved, but he doesn't know when the six-time All-Star will return. Mauer was removed from Sunday's game against Baltimore in the third inning when his back tightened and didn't play Monday.

Mauer received treatment before Tuesday's game against Cleveland. He is batting .296 with two homers and 11 RBIs in 29 games.

A career .342 hitter with nine homers and 60 RBIs against Cleveland, Mauer was moved from catcher to first on a full-time basis this season.
